Welcome to visit our English version website, which is established by the Office for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (hereinafter referred to as PVP), Ministry of Agriculture(hereinafter referred to as MOA), P.R.China to help foreign organizations or applicants to get a good understanding of our PVP system, meanwhile providing an exchange platform for suggestions and recommendations to improve our PVP system.
On March 20, 1997, China promulgated its first PVP law ‘Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants’, which corresponded to the 1978 Act of Convention of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) in principal. On April 23, 1999, China became the 39th member of UPOV.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the State Forestry Administration of China are jointly responsible for PVP affairs, according to the division of their job responsibilities, the Office for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, MOA is responsible for the receipt and examination of applications for PBR, and for the grant of PBR.
